Shaw’s Creek is temporarily serene as it gathers in the Alton mill pond. Both the Alton Mill Arts Centre and the nearby Millcroft Inn & Spa share the pond and enjoy its tranquil views.
Each spring Canada Geese use the banks of the millpond as a nursery to hatch their young goslings. By late summer it is water lilies that preside. In the fall, red and yellow leaves dislodged by the autumn winds float gently on the pond surface and In the winter the pond freezes over completely, providing a perfect surface for the human pursuits of skating and ice hockey.
